A Touch of Frost

Jack Frost finally made his touch on our allotments and what a sight! I woke up extra early to get some work done on my plot but ended up wasting about half an hour taking photographs (and then another half an hour with my feet up and a cup of tea!) The sun soon warmed everything back up and the frost melted away so I could get on with digging my empty turnip patch :)

I do love winter even though my toes and fingers were frozen!

Good old Santa!

So Santa has been and gone and what a lucky girl I am! I was completely spoilt and got lots of lovely things for me and my Lottie, which was perfect as I was lacking a lot of tools having only acquired my plot in July. I got a pretty kneeler with matching gloves (which happen to fit my long fingers so I am chuffed!), a tool scrubbing brush, a blackboard handmade by my wonderful Dad, a repro Land Girls manual, Alys Fowler Thrifty Forager book, a Liberty print robin, a mug, some gardeners hand lotions, a doormat and a boot scraper shaped like a turtle! I am so happy and grateful to my parents and family for all the wonderful presents

After the usual christmas festivities of eating till you could burst and watching as much cheesy television as possible I popped up to plot 15c to move my gifts into the shed (and to have a relaxing cup of tea!). The blackboard my dad made for me has been securely screwed to my stable door, perfect for writing to do lists and my doormat adds a lovely homely touch.

I also made some plant markers for my Dad to place in his own allotment, plot 3c. I used strips of pine and painted them in the same cuprinol shade as his shed (we like things to match!) I then cut and attached pieces of reclaimed slate tiles to the wood and hey presto! Handmade plant markers which didn’t cost the earth!

I hope everybody had a fantastic christmas :) xx

Merry Christmas to all…

Well it’s finally here, all that planning and preparation comes down to this one single day, but boy isn’t it worth it!? Handmade christmas completely went out the window this year and I’m sorry to say I only made 4 gifts with the rest being brought from the high street. However, it is our first christmas with homegrown produce on the table! We popped down to plot 3c, which happens to be my dad’s allotment, to gather the veg for our christmas dinner :)

It was a very downcast day, the aftermath of a storm which left the ground soggy and VERY muddy! We managed to get some carrots, parsnips, turnips and sprouts from my dad’s plot, along with some beetroot from my Lottie to pickle later on. We walked home laden with goodies ready to be roasted and cooked tomorrow, our first homegrown christmas veg!

I hope everyone has a lovely christmas and wonderful new year!

Merry christmas to all and to all a good night :)

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I love christmas, its a fact! The food, the songs, the weather and the company, whats not to love? This is however, my first christmas on plot 15c and what better way to celebrate then with some decorations to spread the cheer.

christmas

To mark my first winter up the allotments I decided to finally make a wreath (which I have been meaning to do every year but never had the time!) I collected some moss, conifer, berries and fir cones from the garden and used some thistles and leaves brought from a local market, add that with a pinch of creativity and a very handy metal wreath ring and ta dah! A christmas wreath was born! I am absolutely chuffed with it and the best thing… it only cost me £3.00 to make. It is now sitting pride of place on my shed door with the cutest (and naffest!) deer head hanging above it.
