I managed to pop down the allotment early this morning to film the intro for the ‘What to do in April’ video (I know, 7 days late but it’s being edited as we speak!) and I was greeted by sunshine and some little surprises. My first tulip has bloomed in the galvanised pot by the pathway! The tulip trough also looks lush and green too with some tulip heads forming, I just can’t wait to see these all in bloom again this year and I shouldn’t have to wait long. Last year I was picking tulips on my birthday at the end of April, a beautiful present to myself. The broad beans also have some flowers but I reckon it’s not going to be a good year for them, they haven’t grown very tall and the same thing happened last year. Not too worry though, the primroses by the pond are in full bloom and the rose bush has lots of lovely buds on it, it looks like Spring has finally sprung on Plot 15C.
I only spent an hour up there but I wish I could have spent all day… The sun was shining, the birds were singing and that mountain of well rotted manure is still sat there waiting for me to dig it into the vegetable beds!
