We’ve been having one of the wettest Junes ever here and although it is getting a little bit annoying now the garden is sure enjoying all the rain! I headed up to the allotment yesterday evening with my wellies and rain coat to pick some broad beans, I hadn’t been up there for over a week and the beans have producing pods like crazy. First things first though was to inspect the plot and to see what the slugs had done…
Surprisingly there wasn’t much slug damage despite them thriving in this weather. They had eaten two of my sunflowers which I’m not happy about and I even spotted one munching on my broad beans, high up out of the frogs view! But apart from that everything else had grown over the past two weeks and I’m glad to see all the tiny seedlings I had planted before going to Wales were looking big, strong and healthy. The sweetcorn is thickening up nicely and the brassica’s are filling out. The onions are also fattening up and will be ready or harvesting too, as well as the International Kidney potatoes which I’ll be peeking at this weekend. The courgette, grapevine and sweet peas are looking great and the broad beans are just producing amazing amounts of beans. This is the second large harvest of broad beans this year and I’m having to freeze them because there’s just so many! Not that I’m complaining at all, I do love broad beans…

Your onions are looking fab, Im Jealous! Did you plant some munchkin pumpkins again this year? We have some in and I cant wait for them to start climbing our teepee ‘den’ we made for the children, but they havn’t started to climb yet!
My first time properly growing them and so far so good, I harvested one the other day because it had fallen over and ripped the roots out but luckily it was a nice size. I am growing munchkin pumpkins like usual and I’ll admit they aren’t very big, planted them out the start of June and they are taking ages to get going, wish they would hurry up! But then it hasn’t been the warmest Summer yet has it?
A cup of tea in the purple shed would be in order. I like rainy days as night falls and I’m warm and cozy.
You can’t beat warm days and cozy nights can you?
