The allotment never fails to cheer me up and after a very hectic weekend and the next 4 weekends looking near enough the same I decided to head up to plot 15c for a bit of garden therapy. And by garden therapy I mean sitting on the shed step for half an hour listening to the rain whilst sipping a nice hot cup of tea… it was heaven.
Mr Frog was also there doing just the same as me (except the drinking tea part!) The raindrops were bouncing off his little head but he seemed completely and utterly happy, plus the pond is looking beautifully full and vibrant with at least 4 water iris’s in bloom.
The rose bush is putting on a wonderful display right now and has started to bloom, I’m a tad happy that I didn’t prune it hard because it looks stunning next to the shed, if not a little wild! The potato plants have surfaced and need earthing up, a job for next week when we get back from our next show. Plus whilst I was there I decided to harvest a few more radishes to have for a special lunchtime treat. They are coming up perfectly now and the next row has lots of leafy goodness, I’ve been sowing them in succession so I’m not completely overrun with them seeing as it’s only me and my Dad that likes them!
That small amount of time up the allotment was just what I needed and although I’d like to spend every day up there right now I simply can’t. We’re heading off today to Chelmsford to set up shop at the National Flower Show for the weekend and we’d love to see some of you there!
Have a lovely weekend everyone x

Hi Katie
Glad you are able to have a few minutes to unwind . Can you tell me which rose it is please ? its early , as I only have Peace flowering at the moment ! which is a rose my dad had in his garden when I was growing up as a child in Yorkshire in about 1955.
Hello Linda, the rose was a birthday present three years ago and it was called ‘Katies rose’ although I doubt that’s it’s real name! I’m completely in love with it though. What a lovely thing to have in the garden to remind you of your Dad.
Everything is gorgeous ! I think the rose was Penny Lane, right ? Because it reminded me of your last name. I hope you’re able to have many more moments of “porch sitting.” It’s a much used break for me too. Even a few minutes can restore us. I saw a chef cooking radishes recently. He used the greens and the radish. Haven’t tried it yet but it’s a use for the greens. Have a fun even if busy time at your shows~~~
Thank you Leatrice, there’s the good areas and the bad ones! I have two roses, the climbing white is Penny Lane and the Purple bush rose was a birthday present called Katie’s rose (although I doubt that’s its real name!) A few minutes does wonders for the soul and I’m very tempted to head up there in the rain this evening to sit and have a cuppa. I’ve heard about using the greens too but like you have yet to try it, maybe next year when it’s not so hectic.
Dear Kate….PLEASE help me to stop slugs munching my seedlings! I have raised Cosmos, marigolds and much else from seed…they need to out into the big wide world now…I also battle agains rabbits as we live very nr a farm but the slugs are so greedy. If I go out in the morning and see my nurtured seedlings eaten I swear, I’ll do a Basil Faulty when he was so angry he repeatedly smacked that car with a branch. I do not like to use any pedttlets that will harm the birds or humans.
I’m so sorry to hear this and even more sorry to say I can’t be much help. All I will say is build a pond, my little army of frogs have done wonders on the slug front these past 3 years and I would be lost without them! I’ve heard tales about using coffee grounds and egg shells around seedlings as well as beer traps too, copper works well against the slugs and there’s new organic alternatives too. Regarding the rabbits I’m afraid I don’t have much of this problem, we have deer on our allotment site so I built fences to stop them which worked. I can just see you now!
That should read ‘pellets’.
