For years I have been looking for a good source of wild garlic and only once come across it at Kingston Lacey, the smell and sight was simply beautiful and I’ve been looking ever since for some to pick and make things with. That’s when I came across the mother load of wild garlic right on Charles farm!
He had recently told me that it grows down by the river so off I went yesterday with my camera to try and find some. There’s a beautiful small woodland area right by the river bend where daffodils bloom in the Spring, they have now been replaced by the wild garlic and I couldn’t be happier. The flowers are just starting to bloom and I’m going to spend the next couple of day researching recipes. If anyone has any delicious recipes for wild garlic then please do share!

Hello Katie…Mother Load huh? One thing you may notice about the wild garlic..no insect damage! You could try using the garlic as an insect deterrent. Take the garlic, leaves and all and put them in a blender, add a bit of water, then blend. Strain the liquid thru cheese cloth or a paint strainer and use it as a spray to deter insects and other pest.If you try this, let me know. I never see wild garlic here, in Missouri U.S.A. They are called “ramps” here. Guess I’ll use store bought garlic. My friend says to use garlic, mint, and hot peppers in this “special sauce”.
I love wild garlic, it grows in the woods near me. A couple of years ago I visited a garden open to the public which had wild garlic growing and the owner dug some up for me to take home. How kind was that! I’ve never used it in cooking, my little clump isn’t big enough yet to do anything with, but I believe you can make a lovely wild garlic pesto.
I often buy smoked salmon which has a coating of wild garlic on top. It’s really delicious and has become a favorite of mine. I guess the garlic kind of breaks down the fat of the salmon and makes it easier to digest and easier for the taste buts. No recipes yet, but I will keep my eyes open. I know that wild garlic soup is very popular here.
