A year ago I would never have guessed that I would be here, in Wales, helping to look after a small flock of sheep, running around after lambs and helping to raise one too! I wouldn’t have it any other way though, I am having the best time and learning so much about farm life. Having gone from knowing absolutely nothing about sheep I am thoroughly enjoying every second of being a farmers apprentice, even if I’m not very good!
There have been 18 lambs born so far and it’s a joy watching them all bounce around and playing together. I helped Charles move the ewes and the lambs into the field behind the house to make a nursery group, luckily for me my bedroom window looks out onto that field and I can see them in the morning when I open the curtains, the best view ever.
There is one little lamb however that needs a helping hand. He was an abandoned triplet and as you can imagine having three lambs to feed and look after can be too much for one ewe to handle so he has been brought inside to look after for a little while. That is until we can find him a new Mother to adopt him as soon as possible… before I fall even more in love with him and take him home! I’ve been up doing night duties these past two nights and sometimes take him for a little walk in the garden, he’s growing into a handsome boy and I’m sure he’ll find a Mummy ewe soon.

Hi Katie
These are so adorable , its a real credit to Charles and his family how the animals are so clean well fed and well cared for , just fantastic , if only the world could be like this !!! I can also see how very attached you are becoming !! and its for all the right reasons, because you have so much LOVE to give , have a great day .
Cuteness saves species. When we perceive cuteness, our brains release a natural opiate. When that hits, we get that “aaaawwwww” feeling, we relax physically and mentally, our heads loll, we make little sounds and caring instincts are elicited. Perceiving feels good and we want more. The effort involved in caring is offset by the constant hits of cuteness. It’s addictive, isn’t it? I know… I work at an animal nursery.
How sweet. The little lamb is so darling. This farm is like paradise. You are so blessed. And they are blessed to have a fine apprentice like you Katie. Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful pictures.
Peaceful and pure beauty land, people and animals!
Thanks Katie for sharing a lovely life story and pictures!
