It’s October the 5th and it looks like the Autumn weather is finally here, time for cosy nights in by the fire wearing chunky knit cardigans and sipping hot homemade soup. I love this time of year but it sure has come around too quickly, it seems I blinked and missed Summer all together!
The sun decided to shine for the first 4 days of October so I decided to harvest what I could from the archway, the beans were lovely and dry and the pumpkins were bright orange, ready for the picking. I managed to harvest 3 extra small munchkin pumpkins and at least 30 borlotto bean pods. I’ll admit that the pumpkins aren’t going to be for eating, I think they’ll look pretty sitting on the fireplace for a few months yet and let’s face it, they aren’t going to fill anyone’s belly! The beans on the other hand will be left on the windowsill to dry completely before being added to last years jar of dried beans (which I’m still working my way through!)
The archway was a complete failure this year but I am grateful to have harvested anything at all, and those munchkin pumpkins do look rather cute

I’m rather curious to see what are your plans for the Autumn garden. I’m still tidying up some of the Summer crops but I’ve sowed swiss chards for the first time as well!
I not so sure am busy building mini poly tunnels and even thou lightly raining occasionally am still sweating well lol

Yes Katie, I love autumn too. Finally cool days, its so much easy to garden. Love your postings and videos. Gene
Katie, inspired by your munchkins last year, I put in a plant and got two munchkins, but forgot what I’d planted and clipped one off too early mistaking it for a squash. Have my lone little orange one on the kitchen window sill where it’s echoing the beautiful changing colours outside.
I didn’t do too well on the munchkins, just a few and they are on the mantelpiece now as Halloween slowly creeps in.
They are the cutest little pumpkins. Small but beautifully formed !
