As some of you know we had a friendly competition between myself and my Dad on who could grow the biggest pumpkin. We purchased and shared a packet of Unwin’s ‘Atlantic Giant’ seeds and each had 2 to sow. We planted them on the same day up our allotments and left them to grow…
It’s pretty safe to say that the winner was my Dad… Even though his pumpkin isn’t the biggest Atlantic Giant it sure beat mine and weighed in at 14.07kg! Funnily enough my plant had produced nothing a month before this photograph was taken so I was lucky to get anything at all.
Both plants were left to there own devices, with no manure or tomato feed. My plant took absolutely ages to get going and once it started then it was too late to really do anything, my dads on the other hand took off like wild fire and spread all over the sweetcorn patch. He chopped it off once it reached over 3 metres long and removed any more flowers and pumpkins that formed so that all the energy could go into that winning pumpkin.
Next year he’s planning on either adding manure to the mix or growing a pumpkin on his new compost bin. Me on the other hand will stick to my crown princes and munchkin pumpkins!

Your little pumpkin looks to be bigger than either of my two butternuts! They tasted fine, though!
This is so funny!
