It’s that time of year again and one of my favourites… It’s elderflower season! Last year I missed it and I was a little devastated at the thought of no elderflower champagne, cordial or jelly. The year before last however we were surrounded by 30 bottles of champagne, 10 bottles of cordial, elderflower jelly and 4 jars of elderflower and strawberry jam… It was heaven!
I made sure this year to go out and get some during the peak season so off I went on my bicycle to a country lane in the village where I knew some elderflower bushes were in bloom. We were in luck! It seems noone else had picked any yet and the blooms were in perfect condition, I filled the bicycle basket with the flower heads and made sure to leave loads on the bush for the bees… which will later turn into elderberries!
Back home and the flower heads were turned into 8 delicious bottles of cordial. I absolutely love this stuff and it’s many uses, a few of my favourites include mixing it with gin and lemonade, using it to make strawberry and elderflower jam and I also love to make elderflower jelly too. I’ll add the recipes as soon as I make them… as long as I don’t drink all the cordial first!
P.S We couldn’t resist a quick stop on the way home to check on the cherry plum trees which are in the village. They are plumping up nicely and I can almost taste the plum tarte!

Was it wise to show the location of the Cherry Plum tree??? I have a place where I go for them, but I don’t want everyone else to know it. Selfish, I know, but….
That sounds sooooooo good!
