I’m pretty sure I’m addicted to gardening and since being here in Wales, away from my allotment, I’ve missed getting my hands dirty a bit too much. So when I was allowed to help out with one of the gardens on the farm I jumped at the chance and grabbed the gloves and tools and headed outside!
Those damn brambles have managed to sneak through and invade this plot so my first job was to cut all the brambles down. After the stems had been cut down to around 30cm I was able to access the plot and see what was what. I pruned a few shrubs and trees that were going to be staying there and managed to clean lots of dead foliage from a climber that was covering a camellia. The next job was going to be digging and removing as much as the bramble roots as I could… This was going to be the hard part! Luckily I had a little help from Rex the sheepdog 🙂
The Welsh weather hasn’t been the kindest, it’s been wet and windy with a few cloudy days in between. But boy have I had fun! I know that sounds a little crazy, but it’s been great being able to get my hands dirty and to actually help get this little piece of garden bramble free. There’s still more to do here yet, there’s more bramble roots that need removing and I’d love to be able to dig the area over thoroughly just to make sure all the roots are gone. I’m not too sure what the plan is for this area but it’s been nice to lend a hand to prepare it, hopefully I’l be back again soon to finish it off!

You look very happy, Katie. And Rex appears to be the perfect gardening assistant. 🙂
