When my Sister asked me if I could put together a baby shower for my soon to be Neice I couldn’t say no, in fact I had just the idea for a theme right there in my head already! Of course it had to be Peter Rabbit and I couldn’t wait to get going. So since then I’ve been a busy bee planning and making bits and bobs for the past couple of weeks and yesterday was the day of this very special afternoon tea.
Of course I was so busy setting everything up that I only managed to take a few photographs, I even forgot to take some close-ups of the bunting I made from some old Beatrix Potter books! The entire garden was decorated with vintage gardening props that we sell with a slate sign that read ‘Mr McGregor’s’ Garden. There was a games table with ‘Guess the Date’ and ‘Guess the Baby Food’ and afternoon tea was served on vintage china. I brought my little scarecrow back from the allotment as decoration and hung big pink pom poms from the cherry blossom tree.
Last but not least were the cakes which my lovely mum baked the day before; A Victoria sponge decorated with fondant icing cabbages and carrots, vegetable themed cupcakes plus lemon drizzle and fruit cake too! I even had a go at making some ‘radish’ cake pops and after a few trail and errors they turned out rather well. Of course I was so busy pouring tea and filling up teapots that I only drank one cold cup of tea and ate one cupcake!
The sun even came out for a little while and my sister simply looked radiant, it won’t be long now until her little baby girl arrives and we are all very excited. She’s due on my birthday which is on the 28th of April so that’s less then 2 weeks now! It looks like everyone had a good time though, near enough all of the cake had been eaten but I did manage to have one of those Radish cake pops!
A little off topic to gardening of any sort but I just had to share it will you all…

Gorgeous job, I hope everyone had fun. That was very special. My two sisters and I were also raised with the Potter books. Great memories of being read to from them as a child.
Well done Katie! Just beautiful and such a great theme! Congratulations to your family for the soon to be new addition. Your mom’s cake and your radishes were lovely! Thanks for sharing.
Don’t forget Squirrel Nutkin. A fave.
