Thank you for your videos, I’ve just started gardening and your work is quite inspiring.
Nice to see you planting an apple, though I did chuckle when you said you wanted some shade on your allotment whereas most people are trying to avoid shade. I do know where you are coming from as I have a nice shady spot on my plot for sitting. In the words of Geoff Hamilton, “Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just sits”.
I am getting into fruit growing the last few years, like you have built a fruit cage. I did some grafting in the spring and have put some Charles Ross scions (stems) onto a few of my other variety trees.
I have a James Grieve at home but that variety has one problem, it has a tendency towards ‘biennial cropping’ in that it overproduces a huge amount of fruit one year then nothing the next years, then loads the next year then nothing and so on. You have to be ruthless in thinning out the fruit so it does not get into the habit.
