It’s that time of year again and for me it is the most exciting… Buds are starting to appear on the apple tree and grape vine, there’s bluebells popping up in woodlands, blossoms appearing in the back garden and the tulip trough is yet again blooming!
There’s only 4 tulips out so far but they sure are beautiful and I can’t wait to see the rest of the trough in bloom. This is the second year of the tulip trough and by far one of my favourite things on my plot. Last year the trough was a huge success and this year I’ve added in a new variety called ‘Black Hero’, a very dark maroon double flowering tulip. My all time favourite tulip last year however was the ‘La Belle Epoque’ which was part of the Brandy Snap mix I purchased from Sarah Raven, a double flowering variety which looks more like a rose then a tulip! Hopefully I’ll have a nice little bunch to pick as a birthday treat near the end of this month, although they always look too nice to pick… Maybe next year I’ll just have to grow twice the amount!
