This weekend has been a tad hectic, we’ve been to the big city to watch Dreamgirls at the Savoy Theatre (which was amazing by the way!) and stayed at my Sisters place to spend some time with her family. Even though it’s nice to dress up every now and again I sure did miss the allotment and I couldn’t help but think about all the things that need doing to get it ready for the growing year ahead… and there is a lot that needs to be done!
We got back from London at midday on Sunday so I headed up the allotment in the afternoon to have a look around and to film a special video. The day was overcast and I had a bit of a headache which meant I wasn’t up for digging so after completing the video I checked up on the purple sprouting, took a few photos and wrote a very long list of things to do.
I’ve been busy weeding over Winter and dumping the bucket of weeds on an empty vegetable bed which has now turned into a sort of mountain! This needs to be taken to the dump in the next few weeks so I can get that vegetable bed ready for the year ahead, it’s going to be the brassica bed and the seeds haven’t even been sown in the greenhouse yet so there isn’t too much of a rush. However, that area is a huge eye sore at the moment but at least I have some pretty Spring flowers to look at and the tulips are coming up beautifully. Both the trough and the lasgane pot are looking green and lush with the promise of blooms appearing. The primroses by the pond are putting on a beautiful display, the apple tree and fruit bushes are starting to bud and the perennial flowers are bulking up too.
It’s the first day of Spring today and the allotment is starting to show it, the entrance looks particularly Spring like with the daffodils blooming and colour is returning to the plot.
Happy Spring Equinox everyone!

15c looks ready for the season. By the way, I saw Dreamgirls. It’s a fun show, but being dream girl isn’t all fun and glamour. Marie Antionette liked to get away from court in a village she had built for that purpose. It was her version of 15c. So who’s the Dreamgirl now!?!
