The sun was shining on Saturday so I headed down to the plot to do some much needed tidying up after my holiday. First on the agenda was to plant out those leeks and dwarf french beans, they are a little bit late going out so they were the top priority of the day. Last year I planted the same varieties out in August and I got a lovely little harvest of beans and the leeks did really well, providing me with crops throughout the Winter which was great! There’s a new video over on my Youtube channel where I explain how to plant out both these crops.
My next job was to clean out the pond and to give those poor frogs some breathing space! The pond gathers an awful amount of duck weed and I usually spend time once a week removing it all with a net. However, three weeks away meant that there was the mother load of the horrible green weed and it needed getting rid of pronto. The flowers around the pond also needed tidying, a few of them were hanging over into the water so I staked them and dead headed a few as well.
After spending a good few hours on the plot with the sunshine beating on my back I gave in and headed home to find some shade and a cold drink. Boy was it hot! August has been a funny old month, but maybe it’s just the good old British weather not being able to decide whether it’s Summer or Winter.
