We visited the Gardener’s World Live Show on Saturday the 13th of June and what a treat it was! The day was miserable and wet but we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. I was so excited and had a long list of plants and items that I wanted to buy and I was looking for lots of inspiration for my new flower meadow patch up the allotment.
My sister treated us to the tickets for our birthdays and we were lucky enough to go and see Carol Klein give a talk on her new book, which looks great by the way! There were plenty of stands inside the NEC and a huge flower marquee outside, which I’ll admit is what I was looking forward too the most. It’s great being able to see the flowers in all their glory and then have the chance to buy the same varieties to take home. There was so much inspiration and lots of cottage garden and wild looking flowers for sale, just what I want my flower patch to look like.
I came home with a beautiful little Chrysanthemum plug plant called ‘Feeling Green’, a ladybird poppy plant, a beautiful cluster of small Alliums called ‘Sphaerolephalon’, a packet of Anthriscus sylvestris ‘Black cow parsley’ seed and some poppy seeds too called ‘Double Pink’ and ‘Double Shiraz’. I have a slight obssession with poppies and these double head ones were beautiful, you couldn’t buy the plants so I settled with the seed packets instead so I can grow them next year.
I also visited the RSPB stand and joined up to become a member after having a great little chat with one of the volunteers. It’s something that means a lot to me and I’ve been meaning to join for a while now. I even got a welcome bag consisting of some bird food, a RSPB book, a wildlife garden book, a bird book, a magazine and a little cuddly hedgehog! I’m determined to make my allotment as wildlife friendly as possible, and even though I already have a pond there’s still more environments that I want to pack into my plot.
It was a pretty hectic day consisting of lots of walking, talking and buying plants! We left home at 7.00am and didn’t get back until 8.30pm, we were absolutely knackered but completely inspired and ready to get up those allotments the next day!

What a fun day! The flowers are beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with your new flowers and seeds. 🙂
What a lovely post. And you took some beautiful photographs.
Your plants and seeds will be a great addition to your allotment.
It is a belt in day out, I went last year but could not make this one. I really want some lady bird poppies so I will get some from RHS Tatton. Aparantly the year seed everywhere which is always a bonus.
Happy gardening!
