For the past 3 years I have foraged and made my own Christmas wreath to hang on the front door, it’s the start of a tradition which I would love to aim to keep. However this year was a little last minute and I had to use what we had growing in the back garden instead of foraging in the New Forest like I usually do.
I’ll admit there wasn’t much to choose from but luckily the bay tree needed a huge trim which turned out to be perfect really! I used green florist wire to attach the branches together, creating a circle of the thicker branches so they were nice and strong and didn’t break or bend too much. After spending about 20 minutes playing around with the branches and wire I managed to get a rough circle that I was happy with, I then simply weaved some of the longer stems which were poking off in funny directions around the circle of branches. There were a few gaps so I added a few small branches of bay to bulk it out a little and then used some natural twine to loop around the wreath so I could hang it up. To finish it all off I found and added a few fennel seed heads and ta-da… A very simple, rustic herbal wreath which I am actually rather pleased with. It’s now hanging on the front door looking (and smelling) lovely 🙂

I love this, Katie. Natural elements used in Christmas decorating are so special. You’re so fortunate it have a Bay tree. I like the fennel seeds added in. Well done. I have pinned this to my Christmas board. Have a happy Christmas! ~ Nancy
Thank you Nancy 🙂 Oh I’m a little obsessed with Pinterest too! Merry Christmas
What a lovely wreath! A reminder at Christmas time that the best and most treasured abundance we have comes from nature. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones..
Thank you Lynne and I agree. Sometimes the most simplistic things are the prettiest 🙂 Merry Christmas to you too
Katie, you have inspired me! While I don’t have a bay tree, I do have a Russian olive shrub with lovely silvery leaves in need of a trim. It won’t smell as heavenly as your wonderful wreath, but I think it will pretty. Love to read your posts! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
