So I’m back in Wales and back to my part time farm life. This is actually our official holiday and my parents are exploring Tenby for a week in their 1972 VW campervan called Florence before moving onto Ludlow for another week away. Me, on the other hand, will be helping out on the farm and there’s nowhere else I would rather be!
So far I have watched the sheep being sheared which was really interesting and fascinating to watch, they look so different without the fluffy wholly coats! Charles has been busy cutting hedges including the ones on the farm, of course Rex was sat right by his side, the number one fan of the tractor!
Charles has also cut a field of hay, he’s been waiting for a break in the weather as hay needs 5 days of sunshine and light breezes before being baled and the forecast was looking good for this week. So far so good and the hay is turning nicely, I even had a go at driving the tractor round half the field with the tedder attached, this fluffs up the grass to aerate it.
We also popped to the local agricultural show one morning and had a good look around. There were the usual stuff there, vintage tractors, a craft tent, animals and a horticulture tent which was closed for judging so I never got round to looking at that one! It was great to see all the animals being judged and I particularly liked the pigs, one even escaped from the pen at one point but was soon captured.
For all of you that follow me on Instagram (which I’m constantly on!) I have created a new account which is rather aptly named ‘LambsandLavender’ to link in with my other account. The new Instagram will be completely focused on farm life and all my adventures in Wales so that my original ‘LavenderandLeeks’ account can simply focus on allotment life.
