Happy Hobby New Year!

Happy Hobby New Year!

It’s the start of a brand new year and like usual it’s time to start thinking of the year ahead and all those resolutions. One of my resolutions is to spend more time on my hobbies and even though gardening is my main hobby I also have a few more that I often forget about.

After gardening the thing I love to do is sew, making my own clothes that fit me is my idea of fun and in 2015 I almost lost the sewing bug. So I’ve made it my mission this year to spend more time on my sewing machine and I’ll even go as far as saying I don’t want to buy clothes this year, but make them instead. You see as I’m rather tall it’s often hard to find clothes to fit my long arms and legs, and when you can make your own clothes you can make them fit like a glove which is just perfect.

Not that I’m going to stop gardening that is! I have so many plans and ideas for my allotment as well as new video series that I want to film in 2016. But I’ll save all those ideas for another blog post!

So to start the year off with a sewing bang I wanted to show you all my latest make, a dungaree dress! It was really easy to make, I used the bottom skirt part of my favourite dress pattern and simply added a bib and braces. I want to add some large deep pockets on the skirt so I can use the dress up the allotment but I am really happy with it.

Here’s to a Happy Hobby New Year!

Looks good. I need to make myself some allotment clothes this year. Have you checked out http://www.thefoldline.co.uk yet? If not take a look it is great for inspiration and they have a massive pattern database.

Happy New Year. I have a question about the soil where you planted the hellebore. Did you amend it and if so what did you use (please note I’m in the states so I’m really looking for the ingredients more than a name brand)? The soil looks great.

Love your what I being from the “States” would call a denim jumper. I like that you added onto a skirt pattern. That’s the best part of knowing how to sew! I need to dust off my sewing machine and make some slip covers for my couch.

Very practical and looks good, too. I agree, pockets needed. I have several pairs of dungarees. By the way, I see that your photos no longer enlarge… miss that. Still, good job on the dungaree dress.

Wow, thats great I love sewing too, i used to be a textiles teacher but I’ve just got a job as an ICT teacher as the school loved my you tube channel, I love the dress you made. great stuff, im tall too 6ft 4. I wish i had more time to sew my clothes. You should sell some gardening clothes in your shop. It could be like a tall gardening clothes range….. take care Katie…. Claire x

Hi Katie, I have the same problem with getting clothes that are long enough and ones that fir properly. I too have the dressmaking sewing bug and have made a few garments over the past couple of years but sometimes struggle with getting the fit the way I would like so after being disheartened a couple of times I have made it my mission to conquer fitting and pattern cutting! I’d love to hear more about your dressmaking as I like your style – particularly love the cream cable cardigan you wear 🙂 Happy hobbying!
